NOT QUITE CABLED BOOT CUFF/ BOOT TOPPER

All the ladies like boots.  They just do.  And all of my friends who know I knit have been asking me to make them the cute little boot toppers to add a little pop to their wardrobe.

Now...I know how to do cables.  But at times, they can be a bit...tedious.  So I wanted to design a boot cuff that had a "Cabled feel" to them, without having to bust out the ol' cable needle.

So this is what I came up with.

These are great for using up a left over ball of yarn.  I grabbed some stashed worsted weight yarn and worked on these last night.  I think that this is Patons Wool, but I am not 100% certain.

But...Here is the pattern.

NOT QUITE CABLED BOOT CUFF/ BOOT TOPPER

GAGUE: 5 stitches x 7 rows = 1 inch
  • Yarn: Worsted weight (something that will have good stitch definition and some stretch to it)
  • Needles: Size 8 circular needles (I did these using magic loop on 29" needles") OR: Size 8 DPN.
  • Stitch Marker
PATTERN EXPLINATION:
Cross 2 left (C2L):  what you will do here is knit into the BACK of the SECOND stitch on the LEFT needle. Do not take that stitch off of the needle yet.  Then, you knit into the BACK of the FIRST stitch on the needle.  Then slip both of the stitches off of the needle at the same time.  The second stitch will feel a little tight to get your needle into. You just have to work at getting it in.

CO 48 stitches LOOSELY. Place marker.
Join in the round, making sure not to twist your stitches.
Begin 2x2 ribbing (k2, p2). Work in ribbing for 12 rows.

DECREASE ROUND: k12, k2tog, k12, k2tog, k12, k2tog, k to end of round (45 stitches remaining).

Begin pattern:

Row 1: k1, p1, Cross 2 Left (C2L), k3, p1, *k2, p1, C2L, k3, p1(repeat from* 3 more times), k1
Rows 2,4,6 and 8: k1, p1, k5, p1, *k2, p1, k5, p1(repeat from * 3 more times), k1
Row 3: k1, p1, k1, C2L, k2, p1, *k2, p1, k1, C2L, k2, p1 (repeat from * 3 more times), k1
Row 5: k1, p1, k2, C2L, k1, p1, *k2, p1, k2, C2L, k1, p1 (repeat from * 3 more times), k1
Row 7: k1, p1, k3, C2L, p1, *k2, p1, k3, C2L, p1 (repeat from * 3 more times), k1

Repeat this pattern (rows 1-8) 2-3 times, depending how long you want your boot cuff.
(I did 2 repeats and my cuffs measure 5 1/2 inches long.  Three repeats will make them approx. 7 inches long).

INCREASE ROUND: k12, m1, k12, m1, k12, m1, k to end of round. (48 stitches total).

Work 2x2 ribbing for 12 rows.

BIND OFF LOOSELY

Weave in ends, and enjoy!
